Historical Significance:
Rio Vista Community Park is dedicated to all who have served in conflicts starting from the American Revolutionary War to current day. There is a Vietnam Era Huey helicopter on display, pillars and flags. The Veterans Memorial Wall is 88′ long by 4′ high black granite with etchings of various battles and events in our country’s history. The wall also features bronze emblems of the five branches of the armed forces, a U.S. seal and an excerpt from President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 inaugural address:

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and success of freedom.”

Agua Fria Chapter, NSDAR, and Regent Dr. Barbara Littlefield sponsored the marker that reads, “USS Bonhomme Richard versus HMS Serapis / September 23, 1779 / John Paul Jones led the Bonhomme Richard, a refitted French vessel packed with 42 guns, against the 44-gun Her Majestey’s [sic] Ship Serapis off England’s east coast. He brushed aside a demand to surrender, declaring, “I have not yet begun to fight.” Although his own vessel was in flames, Jones eventually prevailed, eventually transferring his crew to the captured ship. / Sponsored by: The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Agua Fria Chapter.”
